As fire eaters, there are two reasons that we pursue this art. The first reason being the exhilaration of placing a two foot high flame in one's mouth. The second, and possibly more important, would be to entertain. Meathook and I have not yet begun to sell our services to those that feel that such an art would be useful at a gathering of individuals, but are working towards this. There is nothing more gratifying than having someone ask you to perform for them. This has happened on many occasions. We were in my front yard one July night, and a car drove past us, slowing down considerably. Then about five minutes later, Babyface--who was with us from the beginning, but not a true fire eater herself--said that a very similar car, if not the same one had just gone past again. Finally, this same car came around the block again, and one of the members of the group inside requested that we do a short performance for them. So we did. Just this past January, a very similar situation also occurred. So you see, to us, fire eating is more than just being able to put fire down one's throat, it is more than the thrill we get from experiencing this control over one of the four basic elements, it is even more than knowing that we are in some way different than everyone that we will ever meet. But with a combination of these, and knowing that we can put joy into someone's heart by doing something that we love; that gives us this amazing feeling of wholeness as performers.
